Do you wish to migrate to Canada as a skilled migrant?

Cool – but pay careful attention to the following:

To qualify for permanent residency, you need to meet a few basic requirements – numero uno being your skilled occupation must be on Canada’s National Occupation Classification list (NOC). There are only 29 occupations that comprise ‘the chosen few’:

  • Restaurant and Food Service Managers
  • Primary Production Managers (except Agriculture)
  • Professional Occupations in Business Services to Management
  • Insurance adjusters and Claims Examiners
  • Biologists and Related Scientists
  • Architects
  • Specialist Physicians
  • General Practitioners and Family Physicians
  • Dentists
  • Pharmacists
  • Physiotherapists
  • Registered Nurses
  • Medical Radiation Technologists
  • Dental Hygienists and Dental Therapists
  • Licensed Practical Nurses
  • Psychologists
  • Social Workers
  • Chefs
  • Cooks
  • Contractors and Supervisors, Carpentry Trades

So there you have it. Other factors such as economic adaptability and family in Canada comes into play, but you really need to be one this NOC list.

As a matter of interest, the province of Quebec actually has its own selection procedure for skilled workers for immigration.
